Located in the heart of China’s Zhuhai city, a project of monumental proportions is nearing completion. The Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Center, a hub of contemporary creativity, will cover a whopping 66,700 square meters — for the lone rangers that still use the Imperial system, that’s over 718,000 square feet!

So cool and conceptual, there’s only one firm in the world who dares to stretch design’s limits to such lengths, Zaha Hadid Architects. Rarely adhering to the anticipated, Zaha encapsulated what it means to be truly innovative. Even in her passing, there is an unmistakable air of Mrs. Hadid’s signature style, echoing clearly throughout the impressive architecture.

With construction of the Civic Art Center beginning almost 5 years ago, patience has certainly been a virtue for our excited crew. In October of 2021 though, it was finally our turn!

The project’s plans called for multiple sets of custom-shaped, thermoformed, solid surface stairs. Produced by the Durasein China team and assembled on-site, our material flows throughout the main halls’, each highlighting four distinct cultural institutions: A 1200-seat Grand Theatre; a 500-seat Multifunctional Hall, a Science Centre, and an Art Museum.

Due to the complex spatial relationship and architectural modeling of the art center, precise execution was required at every step in the process. Each build component was 3D modeled in advance, hand-tailored in the factory, and then transported to the site for installation.

It’s difficult to imagine a better team to take on such a creatively challenging undertaking than our very own, thank you for all your amazing efforts. Expected to open in Summer 2022, we can’t wait to show the world what Durasein solid surface can accomplish!
